I enjoy going to the local mountain range(Wichita Mountains) and I like to go fishing, boating, wave running at the lakes nearby....There are also many other sports that you can enjoy there at the mountains....
Hiking and Biking on the trails are always a good way to get out there and take part in a day of fun there, and it is also good to camp at the campsites and have picnics..all of those areas need some work, they are older everyday!.....We always had picnics there when we had school field trips to the local museums----the US Army Field Artillery Museum, Museum of the Great Plains, Comanche National Museum & Cultural Center is newer, it is nice!...we always have enjoyed those museums...
another outdoor activity that is exciting but rather dangerous is mountain climbing/rappelling....I have watched others take part in these with safety gear and harness, it is very dangerous and you have to have a trainer or guide to help you if you don't know what you are doing....always wear safety gear when you are involved in any of these activities.....I know that a few of my friends have taken part in these activities at the mountain range.....
one thing I know is that it is illegal to take anything from the mountain refuge even the rocks, you cannot take them!...people try to take them all the time....and always stay away from the wildlife on the wildlife refuge there, you can look at them from a car window, but stay in your car and keep driving! it is very dangerous to try and pet or feed them, buffalos are dangerous and the elk need to be respected also....as well as all of nature there....
after enjoying a few hours of activities we always like to have a meal at Ann's Country Kitchen or Meers Store/Restaurant, any restaurant in Medicine Park....it's all historic....so pretty but needs work..i enjoy meals here at all of these restaurants......my stupid hillbilly family have all ruined beautiful things there for years even before I was born...terrible! :(
rattlesnakes are also everywhere at the mountain range, I had a great uncle and aunt that lived nearby the mountain range and they had a rattlesnake get into their house through a screen door and into the laundry room!.....
There are so many rattlesnakes locally and I like that they have a Rattlesnake Festival in Apache, I always loved going to the festival, I enjoy the carnival games and the Rattlesnake showings that they have....always watch out for rattlesnakes they have told us forever!....lol....and parking is terrible!
